The last few days..

The last few days, even the week has been pretty unusual by my standards. I have been sleeping at mostly human hours, have kept off the internet for most part, esp messengers

A friend of mine – sunshine has now taken to teaching at a school, refer blog for more details, been having some fun at her mails more poking fun at her tho. Reminded me of all those young 20 something teachers we used to have at school and +2. esp the eco one in +2.. she was after my hide, but then I had done enough to justify to her that I exactly thought what she thought I thought about her. Also about certain juicy nicks we had for that variety in school .. nyways.. those were the days, when there was no fear of contamination or loss of precious bodily fluids ( ref. Dr. Strangelove for explanation.)

It has been an interesting experience though, in missing more calls than receiving, not necessarily intentionally and sleeping a lot, and yeah, an entirely forgettable first match watched in a stadium – eden gardens. Must say, it does appear much bigger on TV. Pathetic match, even worse crowd, felt cheated after the match. Maybe it’s the lack of beer speaking, but I doubt it.

Wanted to write about all these people. Will do sometime, in the meanwhile I will just classify them in categories.

marathons.

last few days have been marathons in some way or the other ...

day 1
enders game, speaker for the dead - orson scott card
amazing duo of sci-fi novels, among the best pairs that i have ever read. the first one is one of the fastest paced and intriguing novels I have read, the second is incredibly thought provoking. after reading that and lying down, memories from childhood started flashing... giving a really profound meaning

day 2
A wizard of earthsea, The tombs of athuon, The farthest shore - Ursula leguin.
Nice trilogy. One of the better fantasy series Ive read. Am looking forward to reading more of her stuff. slightly on harry potter lines( couldve inspired rowling) but better action.

day 3
Harold and kumar, blade runner
2 of the best movies I have seen in recent times.
blade runner is visually stunning, harold and kumar is just mindboggling

lets see what day 4 has planned

intend to stay offline apart from mails and blogs for most part

~Somanxo

harold and kumar

harold and kumar go to whitecastle.. this is the most amazing movie i have seen in quite some time. though it wd be best enjoyed drunk otr stoned.. and i did it sober.. this is one of them shit crazy movies.. which would be at par with (slightly better) road trip, euro trip, american pie, dude where's my car, ferris buellers day off... wrong hand.. etc etc

thought it was hilarious..

The Keys to Your Heart

You are attracted to those who are unbridled, untrammeled, and free.

In love, you feel the most alive when things are straight-forward, and you're told that you're loved.

You'd like to your lover to think you are optimistic and happy.

You would be forced to break up with someone who was emotional, moody, and difficult to please.

Your ideal relationship is lasting. You want a relationship that looks to the future... one you can grow with.

Your risk of cheating is zero. You care about society and morality. You would never break a commitment.

You think of marriage as something precious. You'll treasure marriage and treat it as sacred.

In this moment, you think of love as commitment. Love only works when both people are totally devoted.

mmmmmmmmmmmmmmm

That precisely is what I thought about the title of this post.. have been meaning to write a few posts.. but they end up as drafts.. which have now reached 10 in number.. and I am not too hopeful about their conversion because of a lot of reasons.. mainly coz of my firefox crashing all the time these days .. and comp rebooting

Nyways, as things stand.. a few things have happened.. I had an accident three days ago.
Nothing broken, but badly shaken. But life is ok.

Have been having an arbit conversation with kowta, with things meandering to what knows… from Switzerland to laterals..

More laters..

a few more...

Your Blog Should Be Purple

You're an expressive, offbeat blogger who tends to write about anything and everything.
You tend to set blogging trends, and you're the most likely to write your own meme or survey.
You are a bit distant though. Your blog is all about you - not what anyone else has to say.

How You Life Your Life

You seem to be straight forward, but you keep a lot inside.
You say whatever is on your mind. Other people's reactions don't phase you.
You tend to have one best friend you hang with, as opposed to many aquaintences.
You have one big dream in your life, and you never lose sight of it.

Your Brain's Pattern

You have a tempered, reasonable way of thinking.
You tend to take every new idea in, and meld it with your world view.
For you, everything is always changing. Each moment is different.
Your thinking process tends to be very natural - with no beginnings or endings.

You Are a Bloody Mary

You're a fairly serious drinker, who's experimented a lot with different drinks.
You're a drunk, but a stable drunk. You don't ever let your drinking get out of control.

You Are Internal - Realist - Powerful

You feel your life is controlled internally.
If you want something, you make it happen.
You don't wait around for things to go your way.
You value your independence and don't like others to have control.

You are a realist when it comes to luck.
You don't attribute everything to luck, but you do know some things are random.
You don't beat yourself up when bad things happen to you...
But you do your best to try to make your own luck.

When it comes to who's in charge, it's you.
Life is a kingdom, and you're the grand ruler.
You don't care much about what others think.
But they better care what you think!

My Power colour

Your Power Color Is Magenta

At Your Highest:

You energize yourself and push others to suceed.

At Your Lowest:

You feel frustrated and totally overwhelmed.

In Love:

You are suprised by who you attract. You're a love magnet.

How You're Attractive:

Open and free spirited, people want to explore the world with you.

Your Eternal Question:

"What is my next source of inspiration?"

Excite Biking, Rava Dosa and serendipitous luck

Last night, I went to komala vilas, which I now think is the best south indian food joint in cal, after having been to that,Super Snackbar, Malgudi junction and tamarind( this is good, but mallu food). For the ignorant, it is located in rash-behari.

Went on a bike, was the first time I drove in cal( mostly I freeride) and must say was a harrowing experience, stupid buses open their doors with no regard to vehicles close by ( one door hit nihar, the pillion rider). After a couple of wrong turns which cost about 5 -10 mins, we reached komala vilas. Now one thing which is refreshingly different about komala vilas from most other restaurants here (its not food, some other restaurants also give good food, unlike what my cousin vamshi would have u think), it is the lead time. U order, u get in 5-10 mins, irrespective of the amount of customization u order ( i tend to order stuff not on the menu) . I had a masala ghee roast and a butter onion rava dosa ( this was the customization), and finished off with a couple of bites from an idly sambhar and a fiter coffee ( Ah... my favourite variety.. nice caffeine shock..very authentic). So much for food, now while coming back, I was in a hurry so I chose to come by the james long road, which is a bypass. Now here they have built speedbreakers the size of mountains, and not bothered to paint them, a lot of em are in the dark..so unspottable. As if that were not enough, they have ditches in the center of the road, big enough to trap a car ( I did see a trapped car on my way). Now, after jumping across a couple of those speed breakers excite bike style, I slowed down ( nihar was feeling jittery, having hit is foot on one of them mountain brakers sometime back) and we made our way back without further incident to play "Bulls and Bears - a Stock exchange simulation game). After the game I realised that maybe packing away all that butter and ghee wasnt such a great idea after all, and slept to glory for a full 6 hours before reporting to a ghastly early morning( 8 AM ) lecture.. following yesterdays 7 30 Am quiz..looks like my week is made.

Anyways, As I went to the class I had a pen, Inhaler, keyring and mobile in my pockets. After coming from the class, at the foot of the staircase, I realised I had none of these. As expected, I was appalled. I went back asap to the classroom, dragging christy along ( to phone my mobile to see if anyone had posession of it. Last time, pushkar had). Below where I sat, I found my inhaler and pen. I went to the PGP office, where I was told to wait for the cleaning lady ,which I did for about 10-15 harrowing minutes, in which christy ranted about having lost his mobile twice in similar fashion. We commented on the fact that since it was ringing, and not getting cut, it was ok news. Then the cleaning lady came, and to my chagrin said she had found nothing. I was taking the long ( and sad at the loss of my mobile, dint know how to get used to life without it :() walk back, when I spotted both my mobile and keyring lying in the grass about a foot from the road. Heaving an enormous sigh of relief, I picked em up and celebrated with christy. Then i caught up on my sleep after wishing my cousin a belated bday. Now i thought it was about time to put those feelings into words, and still feel they are inadequate.

The phenomenon called internet chatting

A couple of days back I started thinking about technology and its impact on life, and began to think of what was the invention which had been responsible for changing my life to a point of no return. I thought of the phone, the computer, the internet. Mobiles etc and finally decided on internet as the one.

Though I had created a yahoo account in my +2, my tryst with the internet didn’t begin at that point in time. Through out my first semester I used to go once a week to the computer information center ( CIC) to mail my mausi. Then by 2nd term, I got frust of the lack of scenery and village life , and being a teetotaler at that point in time, turned to internet chatting. There was some site which everyone seemed to be using, so I went there too. Someone explained the “fundaes “ of how to find out if so and so is a chick.. and then how to send a private message.. and some others gave fundae on which “type” of messages worked. Thus began my tryst with “public” chat rooms. Some of the interesting experiences that happened.

Profile – some teen female from phillipines ( that particular site had girls from phillipines, Australia, japan , Thailand etc.. if u saw an Indian ip u quickly learnt that that was the guy sitting opposite u starting a love story – ask psycho about Erica 15 f from Mumbai for details ) – now back..
I say hi!
She says hi! Asl?
Me : whats asl?
Me : after some 5 mins.. hello??
A friend.. sale tujhe asl nahi pata ( as if this is like PSPO) So it transpires asl  means age sex and location. Here are some of the other things I learnt.. either the easy way or the hard way .. of course I also did the same yeh nahi jaanta stuff.. on occasion in public to some people..
ROFL – rolling on the floor laughing
ROFLMAO – rolling on the floor laughing my ass off
Brb – be right back
So on so forth..

Anyways, this as expected did not last long, after all how much can one talk to 15 and 13 year old Australians .. so next came rediffchat.. so on so forth.. till I got internet in my room.. at some point in 2nd year, when one was introduced to this animal called yahoo messenger which simply took up my time like crazy. For the whole of my 2nd year and lots of 3rd year I explored this option a lot.. this time consuming exercise ended with the beginnings of yet another tryst – this time with alcohol. I am not sure which of these will ultimately become the one with greater impact.. that’s only for time to tell.

Meanwhile, just as a tribute to this invention, and to show the variety of lukkha I ve done on this, is a cross section of people ive chatted with ( not necessarily for lengths of time)
Names not mentioned because of generic reasons

Phd student – daughter of a prof at iit b. did lot of lukkha in my 2nd year.

11 year old American girl – was hilarious, but had to give up after some time
14 year old Mumbai female – ( final year time) – she was a fan of harry potter at the time I was one.. but then.. I lost interest in harry potter
A chinki female – whose bf became jealous, still get a laugh from the email he sent me, and her email apologizing for him ( after she sent over her pics – apparently the guy was shorter than her.. she was 154 cm)
An Australian Indian law student – nice looking but not too interesting.
23 yr old Computer Instructor @ aptech jaipur  or something – huge fan of phoebe and ursulla (
23 yr old  (now) CompSci grad from cal – claimed to play quake, had chatted on a lot of things with her.
23 year old psychology student from LSR –now doing post grad – likely to end up as my bhabhi in some time.
17 year old psychology student, Riverside, CA – who likes jeff in coupling
29 year old Doctor from new delhi, she made me take a few “quizzes” which sort of upset her( she says my readings are way off – confirming my worst fears :D)
Sunshine – whose comments and blog have been referred
Emgi – HR management student. Blog on display
Ekta – female India blog  referred as vampire girl
Sue – no comments :P

There are some others who find honourable mention, like a certain Persian female – ( too bad her English was std 3 level) , a couple of French ones( when I was learning French and enthu to practice it on skype) ,a female on social security in US, Another one working with a bank,  a couple of guys in Mumbai who loved varsh and landed at chowpatty with a red rose wearing some clothes which they described..

Overall.. an interesting experience. Of course, finding newer people has more or less ended, now only a few interesting or fake orkut profiles get my attention, that too is generally referral.

But must say, has been an interesting kind of people ive met, shows that the world is indeed becoming small.

my dil goes,,,,,,,,,,,:P

well not that my heart has started fluttering .. but the last few days have been a newish experience.. there were a few 1sts in my life which happened, some of which are obviously unmentionables.. but the others include..

The first time in my life, I had non vegetarian south indian food. At this restaurant called tamarind.I was flummoxed by the menu so badly I had to let harry order for me, I ended up having appams of two varieties ( dosa variants of kerala) , chicken chettinad and some other chicken. The soup I had might have as well not contained chicken.. but it was a heavy diwali lunch.followed by an equally heavy dinner which had good daal makhani and puris.

The second one was actually before this, I sat thru an entire match whichIndia won - I dont even remember the last time that happened. Was good to see a school alumnus bash the living daylights out of sri lanka. ( yes!!)

Have been sleeping nicely these last few days, feeling good about it. Not feeling that good about the slowdown of mails, scraps and comments :D

intend to write something shortly, will start after I read "yes minister" should inspire something creative.
