5.Someone , Zorro,Monster and vampires

Though it might seem incredible all these things do have a link. In a dimension called time.
Yesterday after a plethora of power cuts and internet outages forced me to go to an extra class on sunday at 9 o clock.. things started happening.

It started with a talk by Chetan Bhagat, the author of 5.someone ( which is still think is a crappy book btw) , which was interesting enough to not feel bad about having heard it. He talked of call centres as though they were the most evil phenomenon ever to happen to India. Stuff that he said was somewhat hairy, but the kind of arguements he gave were sort of BS. I mean, its all fine to say that money is not everything... but that isnt something which holds much weight if you have loads of it. Some of the other stuff he talked about did make sense.. like for instance pursuing a hobby of some kind which allows your creativity to come out. Also relieves your stress. He talked about the joys of writing, some in a cocky way... but then he is a page 3 celebrity. Took potshots at the Indian press and printing industry in some ways which were ok in the context, so I kinda liked it. Overall, decent - after all he claims he writes to entertain, and he did do that to an extent. He also gave the horrific news that 5.someone was about to be made into a movie. ( would be a hepaxo bolly movie with all sorts of masala)

Then, yours truly completed his tryst with Morpheus ( FYI this is the god of dreams) to wake up at about 7 in the evening. Being desperate to eat out, I jumped into a group which was going to watch "The Legend of Zorro". Ended up going to Mocambo and having chicken tetrazini yet again... now will need to change my menu slightly.( definitely not going to mocambo this year).

The Mask of Zorro had made a good watch because of Catherine Zeta Jones sexy looks(mainly that-got too distracted to notice acting) , Antonio Banderas and Anthony hopkins. The third one is not there in The Legend of Zorro, but it makes for a decent watch nonetheless. It is a movie David Dhawan would be proud to make. This movie, you notice even more of Catherine Zeta Jones than in the prequel, and a few other ugly things like nitroglycerine and the pinkertons rear up their ugly head. Of course, our man Zorro, ably assisted by his wife and son ( obviously!) defeats the villian, belonging to a shady european power congregation ( which apparently controls europe) called Knights of Aragon.Whew. Like any of those n number of hindi movies u trash 9 times out of 10. But good, sort of like those involving Amitabh Bacchan and Dharmendra.
Eminently watchable on the big screen, especially if u dig latino babes.

So far so good, then after returning, I decided to watch "monster",*ing Charlize Theron, which ive had on cd for sometime. It was not all that gruesome as some ppl said. I could recognise
Charlize theron in that, little beyond what is done to fair and lovely models in the before use part was done to her. Nonetheless, the movie was deeply disturbing and sad. Beyond that I wont say anything, apart from the fact that it was a deserved oscar for Charlize Theron.

By then, the latest episode of smallville -thirst had come out. This ridiculously involves Lana becoming a vampire and getting cured of vampirism ( btw she was shown to posess "genuine"characteristics of vampires). But interesting nonetheless, for we might have found out who brainiac is.Smallville season 5 is proving to be good :)

So now you now how the four are related :P

Now, copying swordfish to watch it the 2nd time, till the 3rd ODI between India and Sri Lanka starts, which in my opinion will be more interesting than the previous two ones.

Awesome Song!

Just heard this one... too good lyrics and rhythm
specifics..
Band: "the moody blues"
Album: "days of future passed"

Nights in white satin,
Never reaching the end,
Letters I’ve written,
Never meaning to send.

Beauty I’d always missed
With these eyes before,
Just what the truth is
I can’t say anymore.

’cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.

Gazing at people,
Some hand in hand,
Just what I’m going thru
They can understand.

Some try to tell me
Thoughts they cannot defend,
Just what you want to be
You will be in the end,

And I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.
Oh, how, I love you.

Nights in white satin,
Never reaching the end,
Letters I’ve written,
Never meaning to send.

Beauty I’d always missed
With these eyes before,
Just what the truth is
I can’t say anymore.

’cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.
Oh, how, I love you.

’cause I love you,
Yes, I love you,
Oh, how, I love you.
Oh, how, I love you.

Life at square zero

I wonder why people say its back to square one.. with respect to life.. relationships.. whatever. I think it is back to square 0.. where u have nothing. actually getting back to where u began in terms of anything shd be minus pi.. given uve come full circle :D

so currently am at square 0 wrt a lot of things.. like this quiz i have today on Artificial Intelligence and expert systems. Sort of meaningless test, but its fine.

life has gotten so vague with all these contests that it has been around a week since i last had beer, which is a very long dry spell for me given i was in a celebratory mood post bday, which was somewhat dulled by a couple of grades.. but that as usual did not disturb me for any more than a couple of days. Since then it was the rain ( we still have water logging in the hostel :(()

time is at an arbit premium,so much so that I dont even miss yahoo messenger till about 12 in the nite :)
decided to put a post to remember that today my total views went to 2000 + , in time much faster than I thought it would.. indicating enough people read this :D

signing off with the lyrics of one of my favourite songs...
oh wait.. i found lots more.. so here they go

this is sorta like lines from songs..only those which fit my mood right now..
"Main zindagi ka saath nibhata chala gaya...." (Hum Dono)
Gham aur Khushi me farq na mehsoos ho jahan
Main dil ko us muquaam pe laata chala gaya

"Kabhi Khud pe kabhi haalaat pe rona aaya...." (Hum Dono)
Hum to samjhe thhe ke hum bhool gae hain unko
Kya hua aaj ye kis baat pe rona aaya

"Khuda nigehbaan ho tumhaara dhadakte dil ka payaam lelo.."(Mughal-e-Azam)
Uthe janaza jo kal humara, kasam hai tumko na dena kaandha
"Tang aa chuke hain kashmakash-e-zindagi se hum...." (Pyaasa)
Lo aaj humne tod di rishta-e-ummeed
Lo ab gila karenge na kisise hum

Jeevan ke safar me raahi, milte hain bichhad jaane ko
Aur de jaate hain yaaden, tanhai me tadpaane ko

"Humse aaya na gaya, tumse bulaya na gaya..." (Dekh Kabira Roya)
Kya khuabar thhi ke mile hain to bichhadne ke liye
Kismaten apni banaaee thhi bigadne ke liye
Pyaar ka baag basaya thha ujadne ke liye
Is tarah ujda ke phir humse basaya na gaya

Thodisi Bewafai
Aaj bichhde hain kal ka dar bhi nahin
Zindagi itni muqtasar bhi nahin

Aae tum yaad mujhe ( Mili - awesome song)
Har pal man mera mujhse kehta hai
Jiski dhun me tu khoya rehta hai
Bhar de phoolon se, uska daaman

Another Day at office

second consecutive day, second consecutive 9 45 class attended. the boredom which had begun to set in has gone comprehensively with me attending classes participating in case contests , playing some scrabble and hearts :D

But the two biggest things are that the rains have finally stopped and the sun is out, and today's batting by tendulkar - reminiscent of his style a long long time ago, not withstanding pathan hitting some ganguly type sixes and dravid's innings. I saw a comment in a paper which i sort of liked "God is back" so it said and so he is.

Done reading Knife of Dreams -the 11th book of the wheel of time series by Robert Jordan - very nicely he has tied up the loose ends created in the previous two at best average books, and opened up new exciting possibilites for the last book. Re-establishing Mat cauthon as my favourite fictional character, it entertained me as few other things have done in the recent past.

currently listening to jab koi baat bigad jaae as i type along merrily, looking forward to the next class on game theory scheduled in the evening, so also AI and expert systems, I wonder if this is the same me that has ambled thru life without a care .......

Dada Strikes Back

Amidst serious rains in kolkata - which threaten to make boat transport a reality over here, Dada - sourav ganguly has decided to pulverise yet another local attack - much the same as he did in the counties before performing at his abysmal worst sometime back - setting his way to become the eternal comeback kid that he is.

apart from that, life is getting boring after the end terms - having read Knife of Dreams in between them. taken to playing scrabble a bit..

A Day to remember

Will put up pics later, but a lot has happened since my last post.

For one.. have been to home, and kgp.And had one of my best Bdays in recent times, which was welcomed with fenny in moonlight.
enjoyed arguably the best chicken ive had..dish is called chicken tetrazzinni - full of cheese and chicken... sinfully delicious.

but not comparable to the tinku.. which is an egg burger with a half fried instead - my staple diet in kgp. Had 6 of em in 20 hours that I spent there.

list of movies which I recommend highly, because of having watched em of late :
Monty Python - any one . Holy grail is mindbogglingly amazing.
X-men - I love it.
Bewitched -2005 is ok but the original tv series is too good.

Bye and will update regularly from now on.
Abhilash

PS: my mid terms got over this week, which was why the delay in posting.

fir se nikle hai usi dar ke liye.. jaha se yeh dastaan shuru hui

Mama,I'm coming back home!

Coming back in this time of festivity, will have to see the puja hordes, and then get kicked out of home on the 14th. return to campus before my bday...

last year it was a sylvan retreat that I celebrated that, with parents and cousins, and awesome awesome food. The year before that I was drunk to glory .. the only year in IIT that I ever got bumps of any kind.. and was phased out enough not to feel it. Uske pehle I had played hookie, not letting my bday become known to all and sundry. Lets see what fate has in store this year, will it make me celebrate just another day which proclaims me a libran or will I rue this passing year like nehru did? Only time will answer that.

Saw Memento and Kingdom of heaven.
Memento - awesome. will post a review on another blog, dont wanna spoil it for people who havent seen it.

Kingdom of heaven - very nice, good print :d. Orlando bloom is a decent actor, tho not exactly my kind of lead. However Eva Green is proper eye candy. Has a lot of violence -but then such a movie cant be made without one. Recommended.

Hopefully I shall leave by steel today evening for jamshedpur. If not then it shall be tommorow evening.

Beauty in the eyes of Abhilash Somanchi

“Beauty lies in the eyes of the beerholder – Anonymous”

While I would like to agree with this anon guy, what I have in mind is slightly more down to earth than that. I have tried to come up with a rating system of my own, which is just one another of the aesthetic pursuits I am into on this planet.

Like things I like to do normally, I  have also compartmentalized this under a few heads, to ensure modularity :D. before listing the parameters, please  keep in mind this Is only physical beauty and might have nothing to do with whether I like so and so or not.

1.Skin : It’s the clarity of skin which is the most imp parameter, in other words whether there is a sheen or not. Nothing to do with skin color, where preference is tilted towards “off-whites” ex of 10/10 – Salma Hayek,Sushmita Sen, Sheetal Mallar ( d’damas model)

2. Hair : Black is beautiful ,longer is better. Not long hair, per se though it adds more points. More to do with shine. Short hair is a negative though. Medium length –depends on how its used (problem with short hair is that u cant do anything with it, even medium length is good for running your hands thru it, which is a very good use of hair ;).
10/10 – Allison Mack ( only blonde to get this), Salma Hayek, Sheetal Mallar ( the sultry kinda look is too awesome)  Halle Berry’s fake white hair in X-men, also Rogue’s hair with the white streak – too good!

3.Figure – Curves. Period. Slim is good as long as it is not anorexic. Ideal slim would be Halle berry types. To indicate the 10/10 ‘s on this – Madhubala, Salma Hayek ( yet again, but she’s my favoured desktop) , Angelina Jolie, Sheetal Mallar, Marilyn Monroe ( not great on skin though ), Kitu Gidwani and Rupa Ganguly ( both in their hey days)

4. Voice – Very very important. I have refused to rate some because of that. Famous examples of -5/10 on voice are Rani Mukherjee and Riya Sen. Difficult to pinpoint exactly what is good, but shrill and nasal tones are off. 10/10 – Sushmita Sen , Salma Hayek, Rupa Ganguly so on. Some of you reading this also make it to 10/10 :P

5. Eyes – An overrated parameter – IMHO. Don’t  give much of a damn. Still have to give some opinion so will list 4 options – dark black , hazel brown, emerald green, and clear blue in that sort of order. No 10/10’s

Have  modularized this as far as I could, to the point however – I like Indian beauties more than the foreign ones,  only ones close are the Latino ones and of course the Venezuelans – my favourite entries in the Miss World/Universe generally come from there.

Beauty is ageless. Maybe not ageless but these days seems to go on forever – sharmila tagore and hema malini being interesting cases

Overall 10/10s – Salma Hayek, Madhubala, Sushmita Sen,Rupa Ganguly ( Draupadi of Mahabharat ), Alison Mack etc etc not too many blondes
