CHutti hai!

God decided that Abhilash Somanchi shall have a holiday today for no good reason. He cancelled the only class that Abhilash had for today. He also put up an event with a dinner and cocktail party at the end of it.

Why? Does even God not want Abhilash to do anything productive?

jokes apart, looking forward to yet another session of hedonism and debauchery.
tho of late had been slightly introspective trying to figure out some reasons.. have decided that the world shall accept me as I am.

have been listening to some arbit songs, and watched some friends again.

losing touch with that thing which brings a zing to life.. hopefully it shall return.. its way overdue.

A walk to Remember

Because of technical glitches, namely battery issues this has taken some time to come.

This happened about a week ago, but the only insignificant differences that happened are that I got my hair cut, and I got a carpet, so my room looks slightly more different from that.

I had just got up, and felt like taking a stroll. Decided to take a few pics of the campus while I was at it, so while I asked Palit to show me how to use his cam, this happened.

Then I went up to the tank-top (of my hostel) and took a couple of pics. Isnt the view awesome??

Then I walked to one of the best spots on campus – one which always gives me a sense of peace, irrespective of what I am doing there, (normally:P) I have got up in the morning to admire the lake. Such is the view over there.

Then I moved on to a couple of places where I spend some time – the Audi steps, and the CCD. Also tried to take snaps of a few birds, didn’t work out well though.

Then my stroll took me to what is called The management center for humanity values.

This is a place where a lot of joka-ites have done “value adding” especially under the charms of “greenpeace”

This was seen outside the MCHV, I do not comment.

Is it a truth the Bengalis have realized far ahead of everyone else ?

This is food for thought – meaning never allow such thoughts in. else you will repent :P

Then I returned to my wing, and later my room. See and comment for yourself.

some views of and from my room.

A nice sylvan place, dont ya think - really beautiful :)

will be sad giving it up.

Salaam Namaste

Finally saw the movie.

Because Ive lost a half baked plot to power cuts already, will not tell the story. I assume you have watched either salaam namaste or both harry met sally and nine months.

I had three more cuts before writing these lines :
The promos were slick, the songs were good. The movie was …. God has tried to stop me from writing my views on this, but he/she will fail. I came from the same material as you did.  Nyways, back to the movie.

The starting was awesome, better than hum tum and at par with harry met sally. I got hooked to the start, thinking that all those people who’d told me it was an average/below average movie were unjust. Nothing majorly wrong happened. I was preparing myself for a change in the tone of the movie, but what happened simply blew me off.

I agree that a lot of that is because of my views on abortion, which are:
An abortion is ok ( I don’t use the word desirable because the right to determine whether someone who is helplessly dependant on you because he doesn’t have a second person to approach) under the following circumstances only:
  1. Rape being the cause.

  2. Professional sex workers ( errors happen, and it was not a matter of choice)

  3. She would have to be a single mother and bring the child up in situations undesirable to survival of the kid.
In terms of guys moral rights to insist on abortion:
It is not your right. You sow, you reap. Face the consequences and accept the responsibility or run away but only this choice is yours. No-one has the moral right to make another person change moral ground for lust.

It is my belief that one is born into the world with a primary aim, to ensure survival of one’s genes on the planet. It is therefore criminal not to give your genes a chance. Just as much in my book, as is suicide. This sort of applies to homosexuals as well, but then it’s a choice they make. Free world, freedom of expression. So be it.

As you see, Mr Nick’s views on love and kids and marriage are inherently not acceptable to me, even in the beginning. That is a stage at which people without a survival instinct get stuck. Finally he makes a choice, in a plethora of fights and what not.

To make matters slightly worse you have cameos by javed jaffery as a preposterous Australian whose only line of note, for any kind of reason was “When in Rome, Do the Romans.” Mr Abhishek bacchan and a jugal hansraj lookalike also have roles to play in the movie.  Arshad warsi is decent.

Overall : the movie was criminal. For such a brilliant 1st half, it had a pathetic 2nd half. Why do hindi movies have to kill the ending? Why cant they make more of them “Mr and Mrs Iyer” and “Hazaaron Khwahishein Aisi” type movies.

How could any rational person like this movie? why?

Ramblings of a Somanchi

Wanted to write ramblings of an insomniac ala fight club , but then it wouldnt be true- never really suffered from insomnia. The reverse of that happens only if a tse-tse fly bites ya, and they arent found in India to the best of my knowledge.
However, aj it ij I thought that the title would do, and so it does. :D

Saw the fiasco of the "historic" test match series win by india.
gotten drunk a lot more frequently, albeit less heavily and God (or someone like him/her) seems to have decided that Abhilash Somanchi shall not be given a break from hedonism. So I have goan wine and fenny arriving on the weekend, and a dinner + cocktail party on wednesday courtesy the Tatas, so my abstinence is likely to be much shorter than what I had intended it to be. So be it. God's will shall be done. as they say " Man Proposes, God Disposes "(although women also do that, but it is really God who was in the saying initially :P).

In terms of breaking news, I got a haircut done ( yeah yeah I am an egoist so go to hell :P), and considerably shortened my sideburns, which aroused some comment, both favourable and unfavourable. So much for the mundane.

In terms of the dramatic, I watched "Finding Neverland" and cried at the end ( no I did not weep profusely :P) . The single word which I would use to describe it would be "pure". Was amazing that ways, quite different from the other movie which I saw yesterday - seher, which was all about impurity, violence( incidentally no sex) but what made me love that was the reminder it gave me of the good old UP Bihar style. No matter what else I see in life, the UP Bihar hospitality that Ive got shall be quite unmatched in terms of pure unconditonality , the love and affection which is showered even to relative strangers ( thanks a lot to honey, who gave me the opportunity to check this hypothesis). Seriously. But then I am a Bihari in a lot of ways, so seher is recommended for biharis and UP walas, also people who like movies with a solid theme.

Have also been upto other kinds of activities, which shall come up later.

Youth of the nation!

This is a step by step view I have on this article
Prime minister at 25 does these

It lists out a few proposals and why the "youth" of the country feel they should be made mandatory.
Make dating mandatory
Dating should be made mandatory by enforcing a fine on parents who do not allow their children to date.
Huh? yeah this might help in the personal development of a large no of people, but how does this actually improve the state of affairs? the defense in the article is that dating does not take place because of the log kya kahenge syndrome. If people can be motivated by that in the absence of such an absurd law, they can still adhere to that after its passed. After all log kya kahenge " dekho kaisi badchalan ladki hai, apne maa baap pe fine thukva diya kyonki us awara ladke se use date nahi karne diya "
net result : nothing.nothing will be achieved except possibly the escalation of peer pressure, on something which should take place naturally. some people are not fit for dating at 15 ( as the article recommends) and some might choose to keep their sexualities secret. After all, if everyone dates, then you have to tell who you are dating :))

so much for this . Next one
Jail for Littering

Perfectly fine. will say it is positive.

Quash Quotas

Again an inherent problem comes up. Says give quotas on basis of economic status. Given that those with high incomes are better equipped to produce certificates of low income, benefits are very dubious

Legalise prostitution, gambling
The first really good suggestion. Get taxes from the thriving industries. Improve the fate of the workers in the flesh trade.Would go a long way in reduction of AIDS and other STD's

Smarter, younger policy-makers
Really dubious. Though I would not like to comment on the current set of politicians. Education cannot determine your smartness. An example would be most people from my college. Most of them can make deals for companies. But in a machli bazaar, the 8 pass aunties are way better at bargaining. I would not like to live under a policy made by the so called educated policy makers. Just for the record, in case you did not know Mr Sharad yadav is an Engineer and Mr Laloo Prasad Yadav is a graduate. HIs daughter is the topper of her college. Worth mentioning is the fact that she took about 3 years to clear a certain class in her school. This is just to say that our current set of politicians are also well educated. How they act is another issue altogether. There is also a suggestion of returement age. I do not agree. I believe that a restriction on terms as executive is a better way.
Criticism : Do not make uninformed comments.

there is a quote in that :
“It’s all about evolution and moving with the times. They should let other qualified persons who are young, and have bright ideas, who have ample education, who know about moving trends of today rule our state” says Soma Banerjee.

Miss/ Mrs Soma , do u have an idea how much the so called qualified people who have ample education know about the moving trends of today. I for one, would thoroughly detest living in a state ruled by such. IAS officers are an example of that. typically Yes Minister would happen.
The Strong shall always expoit the weak. Period.

Get rid of moral police
yup, should do thatif you can do so.you cant..If any bugger tried to tell me what to wear and what not to wear and what kind of pic I can have on my profile, I would chop his balls off. But thats me. If a fatwa were issued, I would just run away. You cannot fight a large group of people. Banning them is not a solution. No Ban has ever worked in history. You have to kill the ideology. It will happen with time, not as a result of banning them.

Quality primary education
Absolutely. This should have been the 1st point. I can say with a fair amount of conviction that I knew more than a lot of grads in the country when I gave +2. I passed a philosophy paper ( bachelors) not with honors tho when I was in std 8. Just gave me the willies to imagine what the people were who failed ( My mom was checking the papers, I solved one for the heck of it.) ( and yeah some failed, apparently regularly)

Prohibit alcohol, legalise Marijuana
What??? No-one in the 3000 years of human civilisation has been able to ban alchohol. A lot of the bad things about alcohol are listed in the why. But nobody, absolutely nobody has the right to dictate to me what is good and what is not, least of all a bunch of hippies whose beliefs are embodied in the quotes. views are of a certain ruchi shukla :
"Marijuana or Grass is illegal in most of the world, while alcohol is legal, despite the fact that alcohol is a far more dangerous drug than marijuana in every way. People consider marijuana to be a dangerous drug, while they think of alcohol as being a fun beverage."
"
Marijuana can cause short-term memory loss while under its influence, but it doesn't cause serious health problems. Marijuana is not a central nervous system depressant, it simply does not cause any loss that alcohol does, and is only a fraction as dangerous as alcohol in terms of driving. And, a large enough dose of alcohol can and will kill you, while the same is not true of marijuana. Deaths caused by mild drugs like grass is none."

Having seen the effects of both, in my humble observation I have found that grass interferes a lot more with your life than alcohol, inspite of it being non addictive. Very few in my vicinity were/are actually "addicted" to alcohol. Those who were, have already undergone rehab. Those addicted to grass, just go on, seemingly normal but operating at much lower efficiencies.

either way, treat all such on an equal footing.
PS : i think you forgot smoking. It is more dangerous than either of the two mentioned.

Overall, I was not particularly happy after reading this. Seems like a horrible mish-mash with some good ideas , but mostly impractical.Which is not very different from what a government does. But if you have to play the same wolf and sheep game, it does not make a material difference to the social structure, with the net gain to society being zilch.

In My Humble Opinion

Coincidence? and a feeble attempt at poetry.

I had this real strange thought enter my head as I was trying to sleep for some more time in the morning. It's so strange that I thought of putting it in the public domain.
Is it a coincidence that a vast majority of my limited female friends/acquaintances/whatevers
seem to have their first names ending in "a", or is it that a larger proportion of girls have that, so what is happening is a reflection of the true demographics?. As a sample population, I will list my favourite heroines : Salma Hayek,Sushmita Sen,Angelina joley:P,Madhubala ( this has also to do with madhushala) etc etc.

my feeble attempt at poetry is a result of some really misdirected thought, but since it has come out, I would prefer to subject it to boquets (brickbats are strictly not welcome :D). Slightly offensive, but do tell me what your reactions are on seeing this.

Aapke naam se aastha chalakti hai,
Aapke badan se wasna chalakti hai,

Of Santiago and his treasure

The Alchemist is a book which tells the story of a boy – Santiago and his quest for treasure. It is beyond a book, it is a journey – of faith, self-belief and above all of achievement. I will continue the rest interspersed with quotes from the book, starting with a few that touched my heart, meaning that they represent what I believe in, fully or can otherwise relate to them.

“He told himself that he would have to start reading thicker books: they lasted longer, and made more comfortable pillows.”
"It's not what enters men's mouths that's evil," said the alchemist. "It's what comes out of their mouths that is."
"Life attracts life,"
"One is loved because one is loved. No reason is needed for loving."
"Usually the threat of death makes people a lot more aware of their lives."
"It's this: that at a certain point in our lives, we lose control of what's happening to us, and our lives become controlled by fate. That's the world's greatest lie."
There is a quote which I particularly liked, though I partly disagree with the representation, not believing in omens. But the spirit is still very representative. Throughout your life you battle only one thing – yourself. Only you stand between you and your dreams, either because you cannot sum up the courage or the will to achieve or because you don’t believe in yourself.
"Don't forget that everything you deal with is only one thing and nothing else. And don't forget the language of omens. And, above all, don't forget to follow your destiny through to its conclusion.

Another quote, which I hear has been aptly plagiarized by “Iqbal”. Following it is the truth, which makes it a slightly bitter pill to swallow.
"When you want something, all the universe conspires to help you achieve it,"
"What you still need to know is this: before a dream is realized, the Soul of the World tests everything that was learned along the way. It does this not because it is evil, but so that we can, in addition to realizing our dreams, master the lessons we've learned as we've moved toward that dream. That's the point at which most people give up. It's the point at which, as we say in the language of the desert, one 'dies of thirst just when the palm trees have appeared on the horizon.”

What is impressive here is that inspite of my agnosticism, I have few issues in appreciating the core. One may not believe in the soul of the world, or god but these are things which still make for faith.

Another such part says something I partially believe in, not really believing in the second part.
"We are afraid of losing what we have, whether it's our life or our possessions and property. But this fear evaporates when we understand that our life stories and the history of the world were written by the same hand."

I conclude with a few quotes which took my breath away when I read them, you have to read the book to really appreciate them.
“The boy had met the alchemist.”
"I'm a woman of the desert," she said, averting her face. "But above all, I'm a woman."
“The boy smiled. It was the first time she had done that.”
"Treason is a blow that comes unexpectedly. If you know your heart well, it will never be able to do that to you. Because you'll know its dreams and wishes, and will know how to deal with them.”
“There's one that says, 'Everything that happens once can never happen again. But everything that happens twice will surely happen a third time.' "

"No matter what he does, every person on earth plays a central role in the history of the world. And normally he doesn't know it."
Because now he knew where his treasure was.”
Enough about The Alchemist. Next in line is my single most favorite piece of literature. Beyond the wildest dreams of most people, funnier than anything else I have read, more profound than the Bible or Geeta (No offence Meant), More meaningless than any conversation I have had but Ah so memorable – The long dark tea –time of the soul.
Ciao,
Abhilash

Why I am an optimist

As you would all have realised by now,( if you havent you never will), that while I am a cynic, I never look upset with anything. The main reason for that is that I am an incurable optimist, in fact it is a necessity to even survive with a smile. This is one occasion where I believe pictures express it better than words, so I will present a pictorial theory. Note that while it is slightly offensive to some people, it does get the message across

Imagine - copyright of john lennon

Imagine

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

Jonathan livingston seagull, and The Alchemist

the first in the series are two very exceptional books, because of their inherent simplicity, but more on that individually.

Jonathan Livingston Seagull by Richard Bach
this book as it is called, is about a seagull called Jonathan Livingston who loves flying. in fact he loves it so much he tries to do things which gave most seagulls willies. This is a book about a quest for knowlege, ambition and targets which are not limited by your body or mind. It is all in the mind.As Jonatahan begins to break the barriers of sound, this world , space and time, finally the last barrier is love. Through this journey of Jonathan, there is a unique feeling of pure, unadulterated joy that accompanies us. This book has never ceased to calm me when I read it. It is too simplistic but I dont see that as a fault. There are two lessons in the book which are very nice -
1. do not give up something you really really want - for anybody.
2. do not feel constrained by natural ability. If you want something, there are tweaks. If a seagull could fly like a hawk by use of its natural wings, most people have a lot more to work with for what they want.Realise your potential. Never give up because you feel you dont have potential. You do. The same amount as anyone else.
3.Do not hate others. I ve found this very useful, actually the most useful thing in this book.

All in all, Ive read this book about 50 times now, and I am likely to read it some that many times again.
writing about it has made me want to read it again, so alchemist will come in the evening, with a note on anne rice.

A ride to remember

I drove one of these beauties in the morning today.Without doubt the best motorcycle (note that I do not call it a bike - a splendor is an example of that) I have ever ridden, the feeling of peace that you get while riding this is amazing. The stability of this vehicle is awesome, and I can fully understand those who do not wish to ride any other vehicle. You can cruise at 80-90 kmph on these amazing vehicles and not feel like you are in any danger of something that might crop up on the road inclusive of other vehicles. The balance and poise that you have on these gives you a feeling of peace which transports you to zen ( and the art thereof). You can turn at much higher speeds on this without fear of the vehicle overturning.

I can only imagine what a Harley feels like, but if this is any indication, it will truly be a trancedental experience to drive that. Harley.. here I come

PS: the comfort of the seat is unrivalled. It is almost like a throne of power.

A momentary lapse of reason

Friends, women and coutrymen,(Also my other readers)
I have decided that some clarifications might be in order looking at the general online and offline reactions I got to my previous post

first off the inspiration - it was some such solicitory mails/scraps sent to some of my friends.. or to varsha - my erstwhile cybernetic projection on the internet. http://profiles.yahoo.com/varshagopikar

Felt like writing one such thing,as a mater of fact I have told a couple of u guys that I was going to write one, and you "encouraged" me ... So I went on and wrote that.. it also did another thing for me, it gave my blog a high visibility logging about a 100 views taking me past 1000 views since installing the counter, which was in the middle of last term :D

so now everybody knows "who" inspired me :P

second off, I am not looking for a wife right now, for now I have other pressing claims on my small time - like beer, movies, occasionally grass, not so occasionally rooftops and lakesides; my blog and other writings, books etc etc However I do consider marriage important, therein ensuring the survival of my genes ( before u start getting ideas, think of what wd happen to somanchi in an anath ashram.. wouldnt live there.. he'd just survive.. and if its a she.. she's in trouble the day she is born :P ) But right now I am cool with what I am.

most importantly it was what is known as "A momentary lapse of reason" Those who know me personally know more about mine... but it does extend to every facet of my life. For now these are the lines to describe my life, dont mid the plagiarisation :p :

"It is the best of times, it is the worst of times, it is the age of
wisdom, it is the age of foolishness, it is the epoch of belief, it is the
epoch of incredulity, it is the season of Light, it is the season of
Darkness, it is the spring of hope, it is the winter of despair, I have
everything before me, I have nothing before me"
In short, oxymoronic, but will not be so pretty soon

Love,
Abhilash

Mujhse shaadi karogi?

Hi, this is me as I am likely to look even right now, but also for quite some time in a corporate setting. As is clearly evident I exude power and confidence from my dressing style and looks.

Let me introduce myself for those who are curious to see where it all stems from. I was named Sri Ram Venkat Aditya Sri Abhilash Somanchi by my overzealous grandmoms. I go by the name of Sri Abhilash Somanchi for practical purposes. Friends call me Somanxo,Sancho or Slomo ( Because of my lazy elegance and utter nonchalance). I came into this world on a dark amavasya night in the october of 1982, as the world around me was celebrating my arrival with crackers and fireworks which lit up the night.Yes, you got it right, it was Deepawali- the festival of Deepa's ... I mean diyas. So I entered this world with a bang.
I did not stop after that. Curiosity was both my boon and bane for childhood. I did all things that children do - steal fruits from neighbours ( and others) , play I -spy, and a host of other games like gilli-danda, lattu phod, phitto, denga-paani etc. Kite flying used to be a passion, still like it. I got into trouble for climbing water-tanks etc which were deemed dangerous. My first true love - literature came to me at the tender age of 6, when I started with enid blyton. Later on this blossomed to a point where I used to read novels kept between text books at exam times. The thirst for knowledge that I had naturally led me to science. Naive in my teens, I appeared for and cleared the JEE, one of the toughest exams in the world coming in the top 1 percent of all students who appeared.
and joined my alma mater - The Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur, where I stayed for four years as a student of the Electrical Engineering Department, getting a B.Tech(Honours) ( pun unintended) in Instrumentation Engineering.
At this sylvan retreat, I discovered that science was not what I was made for, and cleared CAT, one of the toughest exams for management entrance, coming in the top 0.2 percent of all students who appeared and made it to the Indian Institute of Management Calcutta - the second best campus I have known. Now, coming to the last leg of my stay here, which will lead to majors in Marketing and Systems and minors in Strategy and Finance - and a plush job with a good company - making me one an extremely attractive eligible gentleman.

So much for the shaadi.com intro. Now the real intro.
I am curious by nature, so if something is boring it is a plain giveup.Where things become interesting for me, I leave no stone unturned - which is pretty rare. But then I am choosy. I am also sarcastic and cynical about a lot of things, which can make my company painful for a lot of people, some of them will comment on this blog as you will see.In CV point terms, I posess a sharp analytical brain, have good communication skills, am a team player and have done a lot of extra-curriculars like Dramatics,Elocution,Whats the good word, Quizzing, writing for my institutes e-magazine IMZ. I also play a decent game of table tennis and occasionally go to the gym, or swim. I am adept at most games involving the brain, but I don't like the full game of chess as I find it too long. I however like chess puzzles involving the end game like mate in 1 move etc. I am a very opinionated person, and once you know me its difficult for you not to get that. Also, I am slightly intrusive - so you might find your personal space cramped for room.

Now to what makes me different. I am a generally rational person. However I have a general reputation for being insane. There is nothing which a lot of people wouldn't bet on stuff I could do - meaning that a lot of people cannot think of anything which I absolutely would not do.This stems from extreme nonchalance and not caring what a lot of people think about me. For instance, this post would make a lot of people think that I am a smartass instead of the caring, thoughtful, supportive person who is a lot like an innocent child with an adult mind, whose only fault is that he is smart and openly cynical and uncaring about things which they care about.
This notwithstanding, most friends and acquaintances like me, and have good things to say. I am not a modest person, so If you have an orkut account you can take a look at my testimonials.
I am fun to be with, if you like to chat, especially by the lakeside or some such other scenic place or even otherwise. I have an opinion about most things under the sun, usually an informed one which makes it better for those wanting an intellectual challenge. I however do not believe in any such restrictions and like to talk about a large variety of topics ranging from the spiritual and religious ( I am a Brahm by birth, but am Agnostic now - which still allows me to call myself a Hindu -the definition of Hinduism not excluding Agnostics as opposed to Atheists.I am proud of that) to the bizarre or even stuff like world economy and so on so forth. I follow a few sports, but am not generally supportive of any team. I like players -winners or otherwise. My favourite sportsperson is Senna - he was willing to die to win. That to me is the highest level of committment you can have and with such committment, backed with talent - you can be the best. To me however - the committment is more important than talent, I believe it is the driver.Talent is not fully natural, a lot is fuelled by the fire in your belly. So there you are, I have introduced myself to a more than satisfactory level . If you still want an orkut profile kind of stuff then this is some copy paste :
passions:life... apart from that books, psychology and physiology of pretty women, bird watching - feathered and unfeathered, anything which gets me out of boredom
sports:tt,carrom, basky, swimming occasionally.
activities:if you are involved.. you'll know
books:simple but sweet - bach,coelho
asimov,clarke, robert jordan - eye of the world - mat is my fav, anne rice - interview with the vampire series, perry mason, enid blyton, tintin,asterix, dilbert.. lots more.. nything except mills n boons.. and ny of ayn rand xcept fountainhead;

I love LOTR - the book .. havent brought myself to watch ROTK
music:kishore kumar ..maiden ..black sabbath ..dream theater ..etc etc
suprabhatam in the morning
tv shows:friends, smallville(yay for clark kent),scrubs, yes minister, yes prime minister All time fav : Chanakya
movies:in general - nything which has a central theme - like fight club

also like these feel good romantic movies from time to time...

love movies with an idea.. movies which are different . like gods must be crazy, gunda , god only knows.. etc etc

for a sample these are :

As you can see miss YOUKNOWWHOTHISISFOR , I am the rare species of man - the proverbial knight in shining armor armed with love and affection for you, with a shield of knowlege to protect you from others ( remember that in this day and age, knowledge is power) and love you with all the affection that you can visualise from this cute looking face and sensitively crafted introduction. I am sure you will reply with a bang ( hopefully yes) to the question - " Mujhse Shaadi Karogi"
Yours Lovingly,
Abhilash

N.B. I have written this for general fun, inspired by some scraps that I saw on orkut. I got a huge kick out of writing this, and am likely to come up with an article which is a rebuttal to an article on my friend sunshine's blog, which talks about women being enigmatic etc.
